Dr Ken Crichton
Dr Ken Crichton was born in 1955 and completed his medical training with honours at the University of New South Wales in 1978. He has been a full time Sports Physician since 1982. He was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 for services to Australian sport having completed the role as Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Head of Athlete care for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He was also awarded Australian Dance Community Honours in 1993.

Dr Crichton is Director of Sports Medicine at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre and is a Consultant Sports Physician at the Childrens Hospital Institute of Sports Medicine at the New Children’s Hospital, Westmead.

He is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer and Deputy Director of Sports Medicine programs at The University of New South Wales.

He holds a Fellowship in the Australian College of Sports Physicians and a Fellowship of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (UK) and is a Fellow of the Australian Sports Medicine Federation (an elected rather than academic award). He was elected President of the Australian College of Sports Physicians in 1992 for a two year term and was Chairman of Training for the College for a three year term following his presidency.

Dr Crichton has been carrying out arthroscopic surgery of the knee since 1984.

 

 

 He is at present:
- The Medical Director for the Australian Ballet.
- A service provider for the NSW Olympic Athlete program.
- A regional doctor for the Australian Institute of Sport.
- Holds the emergency management of severe trauma certification.
- A member of the Australian Cricket Board Anti-Doping Committee.
- Knee injury risk management assessor for Perisher Blue ski resort
  carrying out a annual review of instructors knees following a
  protocol which he designed in 1991.
- Honorary Editor of the “Medicine Today” Sports Medicine series.
- Medical Consultant to the Sydney Dance Company
 

 Previously he has been:
- Team physician for the North Sydney Bears Rugby league team
  and Manly Sea Eagles Rugby league team.
- Medical coordinator for New South Wales Gymnastics
- Served on the Westpac rescue helicopter.
- Director of Sports Medicine, Sydney Sports Medicine Centre
  Olympic Park, Homebush Bay.
- Director of Sports Medicine Narrabeen Sports Medicine Centre,
  NSW Academy of Sport, Wakehurst Parkway, Narrabeen.
- Sydney Medical Consultant to Beauty and the Beast,
  Cirque de Soleil and Lion King.
- Dr Crichton lectures and publishes widely on many topics
  relating to Sports medicine, Dance medicine and Olympic and
  Paralympic medical programs.
- He is a keen promoter of structured multidisciplinary team and
  athlete care and the conservative management of
  musculoskeletal injury.
